Dear Payroll Managers and Timekeepers,

On January 18, 2023, the Timekeeping Administrators will implement two changes to the Kronos Employee Import.

1. All new or rehired student employees will get a default device group as shown below:

Device Group

Department Codes

RESH Operations

GRDS, HSKP, LODG, MAIN

RESH Dining Services

FDCN, FDFT, FDSC, FDSD, FDSE, FDSO, FDSR

UCSB All Clock

Any other department code


If your department uses a physical timeclock, this change will automate device group assignments for all new or rehired students.  You can adjust the device group if your department wants the configuration to be more restrictive.

If your department does not use a physical timeclock, no action is needed.  The device group does not need to be removed.

2. All new or rehired student employees will have a badge number assigned that is the last 7 digits of their UCPath EMPLID (including leading zeros). There will be no change to the badge number in Kronos for active student employees.

This change in Kronos is being made to support the changes to campus’ student ID cards (Access Cards) that are required to support Alphanumeric Perms.
